See Underseen: Brussels, Yerevan & Beyond

Underseen, our short documentary about a Ukrainian social enterprise, is on the road. Upcoming screenings will put the spotlight on the work of the Ukrainian Social Venture Fund.

A person walking near a puddle

Underseen tells the story of Alina Marnenko, the founder of a museum run by the visually impaired, as she navigates the meaning of her “Museum in the Dark” in the darkness of wartime. The film's impact goals include raising awareness for the Ukrainian social economy, changing perceptions of the visually impaired community and providing a showcase of Collaborate for Impact, our EU-funded market-building project in Europe’s east.

Until now, the film has remained, well, underseen by public audiences. Screenings at Impact Week Bilbao, and in Kyiv and Moldova, aimed to convene the impact players best positioned to support and accelerate positive social change in the region. But these were private events. Now, as Collaborate for Impact comes to a close this summer, we’re taking the film public.

Upcoming Screenings

Georgia: On May 9th, Underseen will be screened in Tbilisi as a part of the Europe Day activities in the city. While an inspiring story in and of itself, it is also the story of how EU support can make a meaningful contribution to activities in the Eastern Partnership.

Moldova: The Impact Days in Moldova host the most prominent impact players in the country. Screening Underseen in this setting will ensure an even stronger regional connection with the film and its message.

Brussels: We are looking to bring Underseen to a Brussels public soon, too. Ticketing info will follow very shortly, but you can already put your name on the list here if you are interested in knowing more when the time comes

Yerevan: Underseen has been accepted for a special screening at the Golden Apricot International Film Festival in Armenia. The festival has had a longstanding focus on social justice, and Underseen was seen by organisers as a fit, since giving underrepresented voices a platform are the driving force behind both the film and its impact campaign. Golden Apricot also positions itself as a cinematic bridge between East and West” -- a fitting description of the market-building work of Collaborate for Impact as well.

Next Steps

But since the selection process for these can take months, we’ve pivoted our exhibition strategy with the film to ensure more people can see the film sooner. Expect further announcements to come in our newsletter – and, if you’re an Impact Europe member, stay tuned: the film will be yours to watch, coming this summer. Not a member yet? Let’s talk.
