Connectivity facilitates education, commerce, entrepreneurship, access to information and is revolutionising areas like agriculture, energy, healthcare and many others.

Join Rianta Capital for their 13th Zurich Impact for Breakfast gathering to explore in an interactive session how technology and connectivity can transform marginalised communities. The session will be led by Daniel Rostrup and Erik Childerhouse from Avanti Communications.

Date: Wednesday, 17th October 2018

Time: 9-11am (CEST)

Venue: Impact Hub Zurich, room "Loft Corner"

Session description:

Avanti Communications connects the unconnected by providing high speed internet connectivity to the most rural and marginalised communities in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and Europe to address the needs of those who would otherwise be left behind. They partner with national governments and the likes of DFID, USAID and the World Bank to launch digitally connected solutions delivering the SDGs.

Avanti runs East Africa’s largest Education Technology (EdTech) initiative, helping over 300,000 students gain access to a quality connected education. Through the iMlango (Kenya) and iKnowledge (Tanzania) programmes, over 500 schools in rural and marginalised communities have been connected to the internet and provided with computers and software specifically designed to increases students’ maths, literacy and life skills. The programme has a particular gender focus to ensure that girls don’t fall behind and teachers are trained in how to use ICT as part of the education curriculum.

In this interactive session they’ll use Avanti’s existing work in education as a model to explore how technology can be leveraged to catalyse other SDGs such as innovations in health, livelihoods, agriculture, refugee communities, etc.
