Health Community of Practice
Collaborative funding for better healthcare access in Sub-Saharan Africa
Launched and led by our members, the Community of Practice (CoP) in Health is a co-funding platform of 25 impact-driven funders working together to improve access to affordable, quality healthcare across Sub-Saharan Africa.
Initiated in collaboration with Bayer Foundation and Boehringer Ingelheim’s Making More Health initiative, the CoP focuses on turning shared intent into collective action. Through coordinated co-funding, non-financial support, and ongoing peer exchange, members aim to accelerate solutions that address pressing health challenges in the region.

Real, collective impact
The CoP has supported high-impact healthcare projects such as Elucid Social and Access Afya, two enterprises that received revolving grants from We Share Forward Foundation.
- Elucid Social works to expand access to quality healthcare for smallholder farmers
- Access Afya delivers healthcare tailored to low-income communities, using patient data to improve diagnostics, operations, and follow-up care
Both organisations now contribute back by supporting the next wave of entrepreneurs and helping them follow in their footsteps.
A living community
Members of the Health CoP engage in knowledge exchange, peer support, and collaborative funding. By working together, they reduce duplication, learn from each other’s experience, and increase the reach of their individual efforts.
The CoP is stewarded by a Steering Committee of committed members:
- We Share Forward Foundation
- Boehringer Ingelheim
- Bayer Foundation
- Philips Foundation
